FC Barcelona today sealed an agreement with Valencia to sign highly-rated 23 year old defender Jordi Alba. The transfer, thought to be worth €14 million in total is seen by many as an astute signing as new FC Barca boss Tito Vilanova looks to strengthen his back-line prior to the start of the new La Liga season.
The Spanish international has made a string of impressive performances for club and country and at this year’s Euro 2012 has been the star performer, proving himself as an exciting attacking outlet as well as a dependable defender. No doubt Alba will be looking to cement his place as the Catalan club’s first choice left-back but he certainly will face stiff competition from fellow club mate Eric Abidal.
Unbeknownst to many this is Alba’s second stint at the Catalonian giants after spending the majority of his youth career there until 2005 where he made the switch to UE Cornellà before of course moving to local rivals Valencia.
