Barcelona Champions League final preview
This Saturday sees the final of the Champions League between Barcelona and Juventus with both clubs on course for a treble winning season.
Barca, who saw off the threat of Athletic last Saturday to lift their second trophy of the season, the Copa del Rey will go into this game as bookies favourites thanks to the hot form of their deadly attacking trio, Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar or ‘MSN’ for short.
Juventus meanwhile can also take home their third trophy of the season after their shock victory over Barca’s rivals Real Madrid in the semi-final of the competition with their ex-Galactico striker Alvaro Morata delivering the killer blow in their victory.
With just 20,000 tickets allocated to each club to watch the final at the Berlin Olympiastadion, many fans who tried to book tickets on the Barcelona ticketline have been largely disappointed. This isn’t to say however that the Catalonian giants won’t be cheered on through television sets up and down the country in many of their famous fan clubs or peñas as they’re most widely known.
Just nine months ago, Barca were a club in turmoil, at least by their standards anyway which makes their turnaround this season all the more impressive.
Whilst trailing to Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid in the Primera Division standings, Blaugrauna boss Luis Enrique, who some pockets of fans at the time thought was not fit to manage the club, had to find a way to appease their star striker Lionel Messi who reportedly not happy and looking for a way out.
The form of their record signing Luis Suarez was patchy to say the least and in the run up to Christmas whilst their rivals Madrid were smashing records left, right and centre, things were looking bleak at the Nou Camp.
But in the new year the Catalonian giants pulled off a revival like no other and following domestic league and cup victories will be looking to put the icing on the cake of a season that has turned from largely disastrous in to darn-right momentous.
