The legendary German footballer and Honorary President Bayern Munich has told “Kicker” magazine “Barça are the benchmark for everything right now”, whilst claiming that Messi is the key difference between the Barça and Spain teams.

“Right now, Barça are the benchmark for everything . They are even above the Spanish national team with Messi in their side. It’s perfect football because of its mobility, its delicacy and their quick changes”, according to Beckenbauer.

Beckenbauer has no doubt that Barça are one of the favourites for this year’s Champions League, whose final will be held at Bayern’s Allianz Arena and also believes that Spain –with a very strong Barça presence of course- are one of the favourites for the 2012 European Championships.
