Roma Consider Legal Action in Malcom High Jack
What a difference a day makes in football transfers. On Monday, Serie A side Roma announced they were on the verge of signing Bordeaux winger Malcom, however, on Tuesday, the 21-year-old signs a deal to swap France for Spain and bypass Roma completely.
Those using their Winner Bonus Code on Malcom moving this summer (Different sports from Winner can also be played) have just hit the jackpot after it emerged that Barcelona stole in at the eleventh hour to sign the Brazilian in a five-year-deal worth £36.5 million even though Malcom had all but sealed his switch to Roma just hours before Barce announced the deal.
According to reports, the Roma hierarchy are considering legal action after losing their man at the last moment although it appears the three-times Serie A winners have no leg to stand on.
This was all but confirmed by the clubs Sporting Director Monchi who admitted on the club’s website that ‘nothing had been signed’ but that Roma will still consider whether or not they have a legal case to pursue in the Malcom transfer.
On Tuesday, Monchi had a meeting arranged with Malcom’s agent Fernando Garcia to all but officially seal the deal and ensure travel arrangements to Rome had been made for Malcom that evening.
However, Monchi was surprised to find out that French side Bordeaux were demanding more money for Malcom and Monchi finally said enough was enough and refused to be drawn into a bidding war with Barcelona.
On the face of it, there is no case for either Bordeaux, Malcom, or Barcelona to answer too, but Roma still believe they have the right to explore every possible angle in the transfer case.
In the meantime, Barcelona have snapped themselves up their second Brazilian signing of the summer after prising Gremio midfielder Arthur for £35.5 million.
Despite 21-year-old Malcom still waiting to make his senior debut for Brazil, the winger has been an instrumental asset for Ligue 1 side Bordeaux for a number of seasons having made eighty-four league appearances for the French side since joining from Corinthians in 2016.
Twenty goals have also followed proving the Brazilian can deliver on the big stage although switching to Barcelona is yet another step up.
Perhaps a signing for the future, Malcom will still get game time at the Camp Nou even if he is not a guaranteed starter but must make it count quickly in order to make good on his undoubted talent and prove that he is no flash in the pan and can deliver on the biggest of all domestic stages.
