Barcelona January 2019 Transfer News

January is a busy time across the football spectrum in Europe with the opening of the mid-season transfer window.

Renowned as a time for those clubs in the relegation mire to panic buy and also as a time that it is claimed impossible to get a good deal even if there are plenty of names signed in January contrary to that accusation (Luis Suarez to Liverpool in January 2011 a prime example).

However, no matter how much a manager tries to convince the press that they will be making no January signings, no one can resist sniffing around with the temptation to land that missing cog in a near perfect wheel too much to bare.

So, as the La Liga title race enters its second half, what of table toppers Barcelona? Will there be ins or just outs? And will those who like to bet on Barcelona get the chance to strengthen their position as the season draws to a close.

Let’s take a look at the creditable rumours doing the rounds.

Adrien Rabiot

Paris St Germain’s central midfielder Adrien Rabiot is currently at loggerheads with his club in a well-publicised fall out.

The 23-year-old refuses to sign a new contract extension with his current deal set to expire in June of this year.

Barcelona tried to buy the player in the summer, but PSG refused to sell but have now since said they will no longer offer a contract extension to the rebel.

This means the Frenchman is able to open talks with Barca and PSG may be happy to get a smaller fee for Rabiot in January rather than let him leave for free.

Frenkie de Jong

Dutch superstar Frenkie de Jong has reportedly already agreed a five-year deal to join the Catalan club.

Still only 21, De Jong has been coveted by all and sundry as he has repeatedly starred for his club Ajax as well as earning a number of caps for Holland already.

De Jong is another midfielder who fits the youth mould perfectly as Valverde looks to bring in the next squad of superstars to rule Spain and Europe for years to come.

Jean-Clair Todibo

French teenage defender Todibo is reportedly high on the Barca list as a future defensive rock amid rumours the 19-year-old is undervalued at current club Toulouse.

Mundo Deportivo claim Barcelona are eager to get a deal over the line January especially considering he has been the subject of interest from the likes of Juventus, Napoli, Lyon, and Inter Milan.

Todibo decided against extending his contract with Toulouse and is training with reserves so a move sooner rather than later would suit all parties.
